The traditional ‘Vlaggetjesdag’ is an annual festival celebrating the arrival of the year’s new herring.
The forecasted rain did not deter the many visitors to this years Vlaggetjesdag and even though buffeted by strong winds were able to enjoy the many traditional Vlaggetjesdag activities, these included marching bands, dance, military and oldtimer vehicles exhibits, traditional crafts, displays of steam engines, on board visits to a museum ship and a Netherlands Navy Ship, displays by the Lifeboat Service and choirs on the main podium that even included a male choir singing the Vera Lynn song ‘We’ll meet again’!.
In addition to the many activities, there were of course many eateries were you could purchase and enjoy the new herring and even a stall for children so that they could get to know and try the new herring.
