Todays images are of Sinterklaas’s arrival and procession through the streets of The Hague on Saturday 12th November 2011.
Today (12 November 2011) Sinterklaas arrived at Scheveningen Harbour aboard his Steamboat the ‘SS Madrid’ from Spain, a children’s tradition now going back more than sixty years.
Upon his arrival in the harbour Sinterklaas was greeted by hundreds of excited children occupying every free space and vantage point along the dockside waiting to get a glimpse of this special man with a white beard and red coat.
And as the ‘SS Madrid’ docked Mayor Jozias van Aartsen of The Hague and the Spanish Ambassador to the Netherlands, Javier Vallaure stood by to greet Sinterklaas. And as he disembarked he was welcomed with open arms by the Mayor and the excited screams of the children.
Sinterklaas on his white horse along with his many ‘Pieten’ and helpers then left in a procession from the harbour through the streets lined with children waiting in anticipation and uncontainable excitement as it made its way to the the Plein in The Hague city centre.
