WERELDREIS DOOR EIGEN STAD – THE HAGUE

March 23, 2012 by Neil Nathan Leave a Comment

Todays images are from the ‘Wereldreis door eigen stad’ (World tour through your own city) on Sunday 18th March 2012.

When do you get an opportunity to visit two churches, a synagogue and a mosque in an afternoon?
With the ‘Wereldreis door eigen stad’ I was able to visit the ‘Beth Jehoeda’ Synagogue on the Jan Evertstraat, the Mescid-i Aksa Mosque on the Wagenstraat, the Oud-Katholieke Parochie (Old parish church) on the Prinsestraat and the Teresia van Avila Kerk ( Teresia van Avila Church) on the Westeinde. And with more time it would have been possible to visit other religious and spiritual locations
including a Sikh Temple and Buddhist centre.

And what totally unexpected finds a church with a Spanish courtyard set back from the road and accessed via a gateway or another church located inside a row of terraced houses, all in all a splendid voyage of discovery both architecturally and spiritually.

The ‘Wereldreis door eigen stad’ provides an opportunity to learn more about various cultures and hopefully promotes a better understanding of the people of different faiths and origin who make up the population of the city.
